Individual Portraits

Re-create my absolute favorite, natural, to-die-for golden-glow lighting for portraits.

GEAR NEEDED:

  • Camera + Trigger
  • Medium to long focal length lens (50mm or higher recommended)
  • 2 Off-camera flashes
  • 2 Full CTO (color temperature orange) gels
  • 2 Light stands
  • Umbrella
  • Reflector (optional)

GOAL IMAGE

Hooray! This is the “how I got the cover shot” section! This technique is by far my favorite way to light someone. It gives a beautifully soft natural-looking light that almost no one would think looks like flash. It’s an ideal lighting setup for a cloudy day, but you can use it at anytime of the day or night. All of the images in this chapter are straight out of the camera (Figure 7.1).
