Guidelines for Developing a Consulting Agreement
• Be clear about the scope of the project and your expectations.
• Accurately describe the rationale for the initiative.
• Include specific consulting questions.
• Identify the separate manageable project tasks and the results that are expected.
• Do not assume that data sources will be available or accessible.
• Check to make sure the methodology is feasible.
• Clearly identify the specific abilities, qualifications, and skills required to carry out the project.
• Establish expectations for deliverables, work scheduling, and costs.
• Plan accordingly; writing up an agreement is time-consuming (i.e., two to five days).
• Read through other consulting agreements for ideas.
