Why Replicate Data?
Businesses replicate data to provide better fault tolerance and enable disaster recovery as a part of business continuity planning. Replicating the data allows for either the decentralization or the consolidation of data. This gives businesses the ability to continue in the face of planned or unplanned outages and allows for data recovery in case of disasters. Disaster recovery in the context of the Sybase Replication Server is described in Chapter 15.
