Oracle File System

During SAP installation, the Oracle Database instance is created and the data is loaded into the newly created database. Table 20-7 provides the Oracle file system used in SAP installations with a brief description of each. When troubleshooting an Oracle Database, a key file called

alert<SID>.log is written to the location /oracle/<DBSID>/saptrace/background. This file has detailed Oracle Database information and can oftentimes help you to pinpoint the underlying problem.
