Chapter 13 Containers

The container is the biggest IT phenomenon of the past decade. Although containerization techniques have existed for a long time, they have been popularized only in recent years by a small company named Docker, Inc. Docker was first released in March 2013—just four years before this book was written—and has since taken the industry by storm. In microservices, Docker has become the standard format for packaging applications. And Docker orchestration engines have become the most popular PaaS platform both on the cloud and on-premises.

The next two chapters focus on Service Fabric’s container support. Chapter 13 introduces single-container applications, while Chapter 14 discusses container orchestrations.
