4. Distributions in User Analytics
In Part II, we will pivot from qualitative theories and methods toward statistical and demographic methods in user analytics. This section will focus on basic statistical methods. Chapter 4 addresses the basics of metric creation and statistical distributions. Chapter 5 then explores more complicated metric development techniques and common metrics in user analytics. Finally, Chapter 6 delves into A/B testing. The next two sections on predictive and causal methods will build on the chapters in this section.
This chapter is organized in the following way. First, we discuss what metrics are and why they are important. Then, we review some key statistical ideas that underlie metrics such as distributions.
