Recent Developments in Employer-Sponsored Health Plans

Most of the recent developments in employer-sponsored health plans focus on holding down rising costs to employers. The Kaiser Family Foundation conducts an annual survey of employer-sponsored group health plans. The 2014 report included the following:8

  • Continued escalation in health insurance premiums. Group health insurance premiums continue to rise. In 2014, average annual premiums for employer-sponsored health plans reached $16,834 for family coverage (see Exhibit 16.1) and $6,025 for single coverage (see last item, Exhibit 16.2).
