Closing with Power
After 32 years in the corporate world, I retired to academia to teach, research, and consult. As in business, persuasive presentations are a part of work life on a university campus. I recently attended a presentation aimed at convincing our faculty to commit time and resources to starting an MBA partnership with a university in China. After presenting his case, the speaker concluded abruptly, taking us by surprise. Even in casual conversation, you expect some signal that the talk is ending. Such a sudden ending left the audience puzzled and unfulfilled.
