Chapter 1

The Rosenblatt Perceptron

This chapter describes the Rosenblatt perceptron and shows how it can be used. Chapters 3 and 5 describe how the perceptron has been modified over time to enable more advanced networks. The perceptron is an artificial neuron, that is, a model of a biological neuron. Therefore, it makes sense to first briefly describe the parts of a biological neuron, as shown in Figure 1-1.
