BASICS Model for Continuous Improvement
For what we call Lean implementations, normally a six to eight week process, we utilize the BASICS* model (outlined below), created by Charlie Protzman†. BASICS stands for: Baseline, Analyze or Assess, Suggest Solutions, Implement, Check, and Sustain. The BASICS model was constructed to provide a practical guide to approaching a Lean implementation. The main objective was to present an easy-to-use roadmap in which the terminology helps guide the users on what should be occurring as you move through the roadmap. After the implementation we continue to use Deming’s PDSA model for problem-solving.
