Transitioning to a Lean Leader

Management is composed of four major processes: planning, organizing, controlling, and leading. First, managers must hire effectively to ensure that people with the right experience, skills, and attitudes are hired into the organization. Second, placement of individuals within the organization must drive to maximize convergence between individual competencies and aspirations and the goals of the organization. Last managers must learn how to develop the skills of people in the organization through training, coaching, developmental assignments, and stretch assignments. Managers must continually reassess and develop the capabilities of their direct reports in these areas.
