Overview. In the first chapter, the general mole balance equation was derived and then applied to the four most common types of industrial reactors. A balance equation was developed for each reactor type and these equations are summarized in Table S1-1 in Chapter 1. In Chapter 2, we will show how to size and arrange these reactors conceptually, so that the reader may see the structure of chemical reaction engineering (CRE) design and will not get lost in the mathematical details.
