The Pictographic Language

Domain Storytelling combines a pictographic language with a workshop format. While each has value on its own, it is their combination that makes Domain Storytelling work so well. We will start with the graphical notation here. To record domain stories visually, you need a set of building blocks (i.e., symbols1) and rules for combining them. The symbols consist of icons, arrows, and text.

1. We use the term symbol here with its linguistic meaning—a language is written down with symbols. The term icon will be used with the meaning of pictogram or image.
