When I began my own engineering career over 30 years ago, I thought that I was starting a climb up a ladder. Grad school was my first step, then my second was to join Xerox working in chemical research and development. It was at Xerox that I first recognized that my career was not a corporate ladder to ascend, but rather a winding mountain path that I needed to navigate. After 11 happy years at Xerox, curiosity and a desire to grow led me into engineering consulting at Hatch Ltd. This phase of my career took me across industries and continents and stretched every skill that I had, while learning new ones. Finally, in 2018, I joined the Troost Institute at the University of Toronto.
