CHAPTER 3Revolve and Sweep

3.1 Introduction

Definitions

A Revolved feature has a shape around a straight axis that cannot be bent (Figures 3.2–3.4).

Sweep, on the other hand, has a trajectory line (axis) that can be controlled, and a cross‐section shape will follow this trajectory line (Figure 3.1).

E1 EXERCISE 1 Wind Turbine Shroud (To Improve Power Generation)

Revolve features are created in a similar way to Extrude features (Chapter 2). The main differences are that an axis of revolution (centerline) is required, and an angle of revolution is defined instead of depth in Extrude.

• Select new working directory and start new part (Chapter 2: p. 2).
• Name the part “Wind_Turbine_Shroud.”

  Note: We will choose inlbs_part_solid as template.
