A Totally Hypothetical Example

I was puzzled by this line: 'Bob says no, as he and his husband have a new baby.'

It is my understanding that Bob is a male name, and even if he is gay and has a husband, they still can't have a baby, right?

It looks like Bob should've been replaced with Ana (a female character in that example). Then it wouldn't raise any eyebrows.
