Arguable/nitpick: the back cover: says "...this book presents several solutions..." but, what solutions, where? I'd argue it goes out of its way NOT to present solutions, but instead discusses the issues.

(The only possible correct answer to any backup/restore question is: it depends. :-)

All these nit-picks aside I liked the book and learned a lot. In some ways I liked _Backup & Recovery_ better because it DID go into solutions. I've been using `rsync` for decades and BackupPC for nearly that long.

But short of switching to disk as your initial source for backups,

"initial source" should be "initial target".

"...have been a problem for a while. This is partly because...attacks where limited..." That does not make sense and seems to be missing something in the middle. They have bee a a problem for a while: "but now they are getting a lot worse because...?"

"prevent loss of data better due to a failed disk" is very awkward. Should that say "to better prevent loss of data in the case of a failed disk?"

That all makes my head hurt. I think it needs a summary table.

Nitpick: I'd argue that vSphere is NOT a hypervisor. I'd argue vSphere a platform, and ESXi is the hypervisor component of that.

tip

It says "I covered in ch1 that paying the ransom is a bad idea." Where? Ransomware is discussed on page 7, and the discussion may imply that paying the ransom is bad, but I don't see an explicit argument against it.
