Salt is used by the application support organization (aka SRE). There have been a number of challenges ranging from supporting 30,000+ servers, to having hundreds of contributors. The deployment system now uses the salt-api for deployments. There is an existing metrics system that salt plugs into using the reactor subsystem. Lastly, all salt commands are recorded via an internal "Twitter-like" posting application. We had to implement process for rolling out new modules in a safe and controlled manner.
