Luis Rodriguez-Lorenzo received a BS in chemistry from the Autonomous University of
Madrid. He completed his doctoral studies in the field of biomaterials with a project entitled
“Synthesis, processing and properties of calcium phosphate ceramics with clinical interest.” He
received his doctoral degree in 1999 from the Complutense University of Madrid. Later he was
hired by Monash University, in Victoria, Australia, to carry out projects promoting the osseointegration
of total hip prostheses by chemical modification of their coatings and for the preparation
of supports for tissue engineering. In 2004 he joined the Institute of Polymer Science and
technology–CSIC, where he works in the regeneration of bone tissue in three complementary
lines: the optimization of supports and composite constructs, the study of the specific parameters
of the surface of the materials that modulate and determine the interaction with the biological
environment, and the preparation of devices for local release of medicaments.
