Product Design with GenAI
Published by O'Reilly Media, Inc.
Leverage GenAI at every stage of your product design workflow
Course outcomes
- Understand state of the art in GenAI for product design as well as all the tools with various GenAI integrations
- Learn how to leverage GenAI for product design incorporating the design sprint framework
Course description
In the coming years, generative AI is expected to become an integral part of the product design process, significantly enhancing efficiency and creativity, revolutionizing tasks like copywriting and brainstorming, and extending its utility to UX research, design, and coding. With GenAI, designers will be able to quickly generate complete low-fidelity mockups or clickable prototypes based on prompts. The technology will enable the simulation of user interviews, providing richer and more diverse user insights. A/B testing will expand in scope due to the ease of generating vast quantities of content, copy, and code, making it simpler than ever to optimize and refine product offerings.
Join expert Benjamin Dehant to participate in a live design sprint either as a spectator or hands-on with your own product design ideas. You’ll learn how to approach a problem and how to prompt various GenAI tools, and get tips and tricks to arrive at the best outcomes. Learning how to leverage various GenAI tools will help you work faster and reduce costs, so that you and your company can stay relevant in an increasingly competitive market.
What you’ll learn and how you can apply it
- Gain familiarity with the AI-powered tools you can leverage for product design and design sprints
- Develop a framework for using GenAI to push product design ideas as close as possible to a polished, production-ready result
This live event is for you because...
- You’re a product, UX, or web designer.
- You’re a product manager.
Prerequisites
- (Optional to complete exercises) Login credentials for a GenAI tool for generating code (e.g., ChatGPT, Google Gemini, X Gork, Microsoft CoPilot)
- (Optional to complete exercises) A GenAI tool for generating images (e.g., DallE 2 or 3, Stable Diffusion, Midjourney, Adobe Firefly)
- (Optional to complete exercises) An IDE with a live code visualization or design tool (e.g., Replit, Codepen, UIzard, Figma, Galileo)
- Basic experience with a design tool that lets you prototype (such as Figma or UIzard)
- Basic experience with frontend coding or tools like Replit or Codepen
Recommended follow-up:
- Read What Is Generative AI? (report)
- Read Design Sprint (book)
Schedule
The time frames are only estimates and may vary according to how the class is progressing.
Introduction and checklist (10 minutes)
- Presentation: A check-in on the material needed to get the most out of the session (did you receive the lists of prompts, do you have an open session with ChatGPT, access to various other tools?)
- Group discussion: What kind of topics do you want to share?
Define the challenge (30 minutes)
- Presentation: Experts interviews; using GenAI to create fictional expert interviews related to a topic; using GenAI to brainstorm and vote, leveraging several fictional experts’ personae
- Hands-on exercises: Use a prompt to create fictional expert interviews; use a prompt to brainstorm and vote; use GenAI/custom GPTs to map the current customer journey for fictional case; create tables and/or visual diagrams

Benjamin Dehant
Benjamin Dehant is a self-taught designer who currently dedicates himself to leveraging AI tools for personal growth, content creation, and client projects. He began as a freelance web designer, utilizing Figma for prototyping and tailoring solutions to meet diverse client needs. Concurrently, he began to delve into design thinking to enhance his offerings, focusing on brainstorming and design sprints. That journey led him to a digital whiteboard company in a UX designer role, where he further honed his skills. Subsequently, he embraced the emerging field of generative AI, focusing primarily on Midjourney and ChatGPT, extensively exploring these AI tools for web design, UX, and design thinking.
