SAX 2.0
The SAX 1.0 API became stable early in 1998. Certain applications have turned up limitations in the features it offered. For example, the DOM Level 1 XML functionality implies access to some of the information that XML editor applications may use, such as comments and information about parsed entities. Some applications need to see information well beyond that, such as the document type, element, and attribute declarations, so that they can validate structure as part of constructing XML text.
Accordingly, extensions to SAX have been defined, called SAX 2.0. As of this writing, these are in draft form. The functionality is likely to remain stable, but the APIs may well change. Those APIs are not presented here.
