W3C and the XML DOM
The W3C has a working group that concerns itself with the construction of DOMs for both HTML and XML. Although their current release is not complete in some respects, their DOM allows access to all parts of the body of an XML document.
The group designates different levels of support:
Level 0 is a restatement of the JavaScript syntax that was used to manipulate HTML documents. I will be discussing this level.
Level 1 allows access to all parts of the body of the XML document. It does not allow access to the DTD or style sheets associated with the document. This is the current recommendation; you will learn about it in this chapter.
