What’s real? Back when the Beatles sang “Strawberry Fields,” they said “nothing is real,” and if you’re hooked into Eastern philosophy or a fan of the esoteric or a physicist, you might already realize that everything is nothing more than a bunch of particles zooming around congealed in space, which is also a bunch of particles … well, it goes on and on. Knowing this presents a considerable challenge to those of us who want to create a piece of art that will feel real to audiences and authentic enough to move them in some way.
