Automated Systems Recovery
The Automated Systems Recovery (ASR) process replaces the Windows 2000 Emergency Repair process. The Emergency Repair process allows restoration of corrupt system files without a format, whereas ASR does not. When ASR is initialized, it copies the system folders to backup media and critical startup information, such as the disk configuration to a floppy disk. It only copies system files that would be necessary to restart the computer: the boot volume and the system volume. It does not copy data files. (You can choose to back up all data on the computer, and this option backs up data and ASR data. You will need a floppy disk at the end of the backup to create the ASR disk.)
