Command-Line Switches for Starting Windows 98
If you boot to the command line, you can load the Windows 98 GUI and the protected-mode drivers by typing win and pressing Enter to run WIN.COM. You can also modify the startup by specifying switches with WIN.COM according to the following syntax:
WIN [/?] [/B] [/W] /WX [/D:[F] [M] [N] [S] [T] [V] [X]]
Table 3.2 describes these switches and how they modify the startup.
Switch | Description |
---|---|
/? | Displays a partial list of the available WIN.COM switches. |
/B | Logs the startup progress to a BOOTLOG.TXT in the boot drive's root directory. This is the same as selecting the Logged (\BOOTLOG.TXT) option in the Windows 98 Startup menu. |
/W | Restores CONFIG.SYS from CONFIG.WOS and AUTOEXEC.BAT ... |
