Viewing the Registry
The easiest way to run the Registry Editor is to go to the Start screen and type regedit. Then take one of the following actions:
• If you are logged on as an Administrator, click the regedit icon in the results list, and confirm the User Account Control (UAC) prompt. The Registry Editor will run with full elevated privileges.
• If you are not an Administrator and want to edit just your own keys in HKEY_CURRENT_USER
, follow the same procedure. There will be no UAC prompt. The Registry Editor will run with reduced privileges, and you will not be able to change systemwide settings.
• If you are not an Administrator and need to edit keys in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
, right-click the regedit icon in the search results and select Run ...
