Synopsis
Logs performance data and displays it.
Description
Performance lets you collect system performance data into logs and then view and analyze these logs to determine system bottlenecks, establish trends in resource usage, and forecast needed hardware upgrades.
For administrators familiar with Windows NT 4.0 Server, the Performance console performs functions similar to those provided by the NT administrative tool called Performance Monitor.
Using Performance
You can access Performance by:
Start → Programs → Administrative Tools → Performance
Install the Performance Logs and Alerts snap-in and the System Monitor ActiveX control into a new or existing console.
The console tree typically looks like this:

Console Root is simply a folder that contains two snap-ins:
- Performance Logs and Alerts
This lets you collect and log data for monitoring the performance of processor, memory, disk, network, and other subsystems of your computer. For more information see Performance Logs and Alerts in this chapter.
