Name
Computer Management — G,H,PP
Synopsis
Manages resources on local or remote computers.
Description
Computer Management is the default tool for managing numerous aspects of local and remote Windows 2000 servers. Using Computer Management, you can perform common administrative tasks such as:
Displaying device configuration information
Installing and upgrading device drivers
Starting and stopping services
Creating and managing network shares
Disconnecting users from network shares
Managing disks and volumes
Monitoring event logs
Monitoring system performance counters
Managing networking services
For administrators familiar with Windows NT 4.0 Server, the Computer Management console performs functions similar to those provided by numerous NT administrative tools, such as Disk Administrator, Event Viewer, Performance Monitor, Server Manager, and Windows NT Diagnostics. In addition, if optional networking services such as the DHCP or DNS Server services are installed, Computer Manager takes the place of the NT tools DHCP Manager and DNC Manager.
In short, Computer Manager can be used to administer most aspects of Windows 2000 computers, with the notable exceptions of anything to do with Active Directory and Group Policy.
