Name

user account

Synopsis

Credentials enabling a user to log on and access resources on a computer or domain.

Description

There are two kinds of user accounts in Windows 2000-based networks:

Local user account

Enables a user to log on to a member server or client computer to access resources on that machine

Domain user account

Enables a user to log on to a domain to access resources in the domain

Administrators can create, modify, rename, delete, and copy both kinds of user accounts. In addition, a series of built-in user accounts are created when Windows 2000 Server is installed on a computer or when Active Directory is installed on a Windows 2000 Server machine. These built-in accounts can be renamed but not deleted.
