Microsoft officially released Windows 11 on October 5, 2021, after an unusually short testing period. It represents the first major upgrade to Windows since Windows 10, which was released more than six years earlier. It’s built on the same core code as its predecessor, and in many important respects it resembles a feature update to Windows 10.
