1 CRITICAL SECTORS

During the last few years, Russia has made significant progress in improving its information infrastructure. The national security and economic welfare of the Russian Federation depends to a substantial degree on ensuring information security, a dependence that will increase in future with technological progress.

The information security is determined by the protection of national interests in the information field. The content of those interests can be inferred from the Information Security Doctrine of the Russian Federation and include the state's guarantee of human rights in the information field, IT support of the state policy of the Russian Federation, development of a domestic information industry, and the protection of information and of information and communication systems in the various areas of public life. The critical sectors subject to critical information infrastructure protection are the following:1

  • Economy,
  • Domestic and Foreign Policy,
  • Science and Technology,
  • State Information and Communication Systems,
  • Defense,
  • Justice,
  • Disaster Response.
