ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Richard Whitmire, a veteran newspaper reporter and editorial writer, writes education commentaries that appear frequently in newspapers, journals, and magazines. In 2009 he was the Project Journalist for the Broad Prize for Urban Education and the writer for a New America Foundation project on developmental education in community colleges. He recently served as president of the National Education Writers Association.
