Organization studies is a fertile and expansive field of research since its beginnings in the early twentieth century. Its roots go back to the classical work of Max Weber and Robert Michels, who studied the role of the then new organizational form in an increasingly rationalized society, and to Henri Fayol and Frederick Taylor, who focused on the design of its structures and processes, both regarding production and its management and administration (for an overview of the development of organization research, see, for instance, Adler, Du Gay, Morgan, & Reed, 2014; Du Gay & Vikkelsø, 2017; Hinings & Meyer, 2018; Pugh & Hickson, 2007).
