It’s sickening, really–all the new formats and great, new cameras to demand our love and attention and financial resources. If we’re to survive this tumult and tell compelling stories with our new P2/XDCAM/EX/AVC/HDV/MPEG4/HD camera, we must accept to some degree the technological onslaught descending upon us. If we’ve chosen this medium for our livelihood (or serious avocation), we ought to bear in mind that the business of storytelling with a camera should be fun even in the face of the unrelenting madness. At times, I feel the bomb bay doors are opening and we’re like Slim Pickens in Dr. Strangelove cackling atop the A-bomb hurtling to earth (Fig. 4.1).
