Glossary

Ambient temperature
Ambient temperature is the temperature of surrounding media such as air or fluid where equipment is operated or positioned.
ARC flash
A type of electrical arcing fault, electrical explosion, or electrical discharge that results from a low impedance electric current path through air to a conductive plan or to another voltage phase in an electrical system.
Auxiliary Services System
All support systems (e.g., fuel oil system, lubricating system, cooling water system, compressed air system, hydraulic system, etc.) that are required to run propulsion machinery and propulsors (ABS).
Azimuth thruster
Rotatable mounting thruster device where the thrust can be directed to any desirable direction.
Bandwidth
Generally, frequency range of system input over which the system will respond satisfactory to a command.
Circuit breaker frame
(1) The circuit breaker housing that contains the current carrying components, the current sensing components, and the tripping and operating mechanism. (2) That portion of an interchangeable trip molded case circuit breaker remaining when the interchangeable trip unit is removed (100 AF, 400 AF, 800 AF, 1600 AF, etc.).
Continuous current rating (ampere rating)
The designated RMS alternating or direct current in amperes which a device or assembly will carry continuously in free air without tripping or exceeding temperature limits.
Drawout circuit breaker
An assembly of a circuit breaker and a supporting structure (cradle), ...
