I. Introduction
As Chapter 2 showed, gender disparities are still prevalent throughout the world regarding access to education, health care, paid employment, and political participation. They are particularly pronounced in parts of the developing world, even though many countries have made significant progress in recent decades in reducing and, in some cases, eliminating the gaps women face compared to men.
