The defining figures that depict global urban settlements follow predictions on global human population growth at 83 million annually, or 1.1 percent per year.1 The global population, which was at 7.616 billion in 2018, is estimated to reach 8.6 billion by mid-2030, 9.8 billion by mid-2050, and at least 11.2 billion by 2100, an increase of about 32 percent. The figures indicate that a great deal will obviously have to change in most ways people live their lives and how they will be controlled.
