In this chapter, we take a closer look at some of the most prominent technical mechanisms that are commonly attributed to Web 2.0 developments and in particular to Web 2.0 services. We start with Rich Internet Applications which, today, exist for a broad variety of functions (e.g., for personal information management or for office applications including the writing of documents or the execution of spreadsheet calculations).
