Color is a tool used by a designer to influence the external perception of an interior environment and internal psychology of the viewer. The concept of a system to organize color by hue was explored as early as 1810 with Philipp Otto Runge’s Color Sphere. Later, the Munsell color system was developed by Albert H. Munsell in the 1930s.
The properties, or effects, of a color are determined by hue, value (light and dark), and chroma (purity). Hue is the dominant color seen. It can be viewed as the foundation of color.
