Agricultural Performance and Problems

The farm sector and farmers have observed the economic growth story of the country from the sidelines, often constrained by policies that outlived the economic realities within which they were designed. Crisis is a time for unified action and revisiting the assumptions of the past (Vatsyayan 2020). “Agriculture has been in focus for both positive and negative reasons.”1 The objective of this chapter is to briefly analyze the performance of Indian agriculture in the postreform period and highlight the continuing problems being faced by it. As such, the chapter is split into two sections: performance and problems.
