Indian Polity: Fiscal Federalism

This chapter is concerned with union–state financial relations. It spells out the principles governing fiscal federalism; states the provisions enshrined in Indian Constitution related to the division of financial powers between the union and states; explains the role of the Finance Commission (which constitutes a pillar of India’s federal structure); appraises the role of Finance Commissions; and evaluates the dimension and nature of issues involved in the contemporary fiscal federalism prevailing in the country.
