SIP Trunking for PSTN Access Through SBCs
In the early days of real-time communications, VoIP deployments were small islands confined to the enterprise, with interconnection to other enterprises or the public switched telephone network (PSTN) provided by traditional TDM or SS7 networks. With the advent of SIP trunking, enterprises and service providers benefitted from many aspects that are inherent with end-to-end communications over IP, including low operational costs, a single path for data and multimedia, reliability, scalability, and ability to deploy services that were not possible over traditional TDM networks (for example, instant messaging and presence).
