Ubuntu Cloud and Eucalyptus
Ubuntu Cloud on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS is still supported, so it’s still covered in this chapter. It is based primarily on Eucalyptus, which is GPL software written to provide cloud computing and cloud storage platforms that are both free (as in freedom and as in beer) and completely compatible with Amazon’s EC2 cloud computing and S3 cloud storage platforms. The Eucalyptus services are available through application programming interfaces (APIs) that are compatible with EC2/S3, so client tools written for the Amazon Web Services (AWS) can also be used with Eucalyptus.
