Thomas Barrow (b. 1938), who has his MS from the Institute of Design (1967), served on the Eastman House curatorial staff from 1965–1972. He also taught at RIT and the University at Buffalo. Working from a well-informed position regarding photographic canons, Barrow wanted to reenergize the field with experimental practices drawn from culture and commercial industries.
