19. What Pages Are Essential for My Website?
The possibilities are endless for the types of pages you can have on a website. A website needs several “core” pages. Darren Rowse of ProBlogger states that there approximately 20 different pages you should consider when creating a site. Actually, you can break your website into four minimum types of pages. As defined by ProBlogger, they are:
- About page
- Contact page
- FAQ page
- Home page
About Page
The About page is considered the most important page of your site. Having an About page is essential because it gives new readers to your blog a snapshot of who you are and why they should subscribe to your blog. This is the page that I go to every time I hit a new blog. If one doesn't exist, it significantly decreases my chances of subscribing. Your About page should consist of the following:
- Photo—A picture of you is best.
- Site objectives—What is it about? What will readers gain from it?
- Introduction of yourself—Talk about your experience with the topic you're writing about. Why should they listen to you? What is your context and background?
Contact Page
Your Contact page needs to consist of the different ways a reader of your site can reach out to you. It should include the following:
- Your email address
- Social networking sites you can be found on
- Your mailing address
