Women creating companies in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) fields face a range of challenges such as stereotypes and social norms that are unsupportive of women in science and technology entrepreneurship. Studies estimate the percentage of technology firms founded by women hovers around 5 percent in Europe and 3 percent in the United States (Cohoon, Wadhwa, & Mitchell, 2010; European Commission, 2008; Wadhwa, 2012).
