Vice Chairman. Wow. I had to look it up.
I found distressingly little. The catch included a blurb in a 2005 issue of Slate, seven lines in Wikipedia devoted to the difference between a vice chair and executive vice president, and listings for several people with the title. I lacked even a dictionary definition of the position as described to me; a vice chair is not a deputy chairman subordinated only to the head of the board of directors.
I called a friendly executive coach, and asked her whether she, or any of her friends, had experience advising vice chairs. All they had were questions. I went back to Slate and the search engine.
