Asset Allocation and Meritage
Peg had long dreamed of taking a trip with Rich to California wine country to tour various wineries and soak in the culture. She imagined a land of laid-back and sophisticated people with plenty of time on their hands to discuss and enjoy the finer parts of life. What better time to visit than when they finally had some leisure time?
Peg and Rich had become wine fans over the previous 15 years as the beverage grew in popularity and became a featured part of the various dinners and parties they attended. They loved the nuances of different wines, and the fact that you could drink a glass or two without ruining your appetite.
Every time they began to think about a trip to Sonoma, however, their busy lives would interfere and the notion would be sidelined. There was always something related to Rich’s work, the kids, their parents, or their various commitments in Houston.
Rich’s business sale provided a unique opportunity, Peg thought, and she jumped at the chance. She did some research and made a week’s reservation at a chateau at the Shady Oaks vineyard and winery in the heart of wine country. She chose Shady Oaks because it produced the couple’s favorite Meritage, Shady’s Secret. She didn’t tell Rich in advance, wanting to surprise him with the tickets.
