Hair Light
A hair light, or backlight as it’s also known, is not always necessary if your background sufficiently contrasts your subject, but it’s one of those nice touches that can add some dimensionality, production value, and compliment your subject. This is the light that gives the hair of your favorite Hollywood starlets like Halle Berry or Angelina Jolie (sigh!) that magic glow in their close-ups. A small light source placed above and just behind your subject on the opposite side of the camera from the key light will work this magic for you.
