Discoveries/Emotions

One of the biggest obstacles actors face is staying “in the moment.” While we’re working on a scene we live a very schizophrenic existence. We know everything that’s going to happen before it happens. We know the beginning, the middle and the end of a scene before the scene starts. We know who wins and who loses each battle long before the first shot is fired, and then we have to pretend we don’t know what we know.

This is hard. It goes against every natural instinct we have. One of the advantages humans have over animals is our ability to reason. We take what we’ve learned from life’s lessons and move forward.
